Barbara Nattress announces the release of ‘Dreams in the Mist’

Woman’s ancestry makes a surprise appearance in historical fiction

Niagara on the Lake, Ontario (PRWEB) November 01, 2012

In her historical fiction bookDreams in the Mist: Loyalist House Season I” (published by Trafford Publishing), author Barbara Nattress draws from historical facts and her family history to tell a story of a bed and breakfast owner who’s fate seems tied to the past.

Guests staying at Loyalist House Bed and Breakfast often remarked that running a bed and breakfast would be a perfect job—and from their perspective it was. However, Marilee soon discovers there is more to it than she thought, especially when her dreams start to become a reality. The noises in the attic, the letters falling from hidden spots, and other unexplained events all seem to relate to a war fought 200 years ago. Loyalist House may be more than a lovely historic home; it may have secrets that relate to Marilee’s dreams in the mist.

An excerpt from “Dreams in the Mist”:

“Just then, she heard her brother calling her as he approached her hiding spot. She quickly shoved the letter in the waistband of her skirt and stepped out into the open. Of course, her brother suspected she was up to something, but Hannah pretended to be hurt by his accusations, so he gave her the message that she was needed in the house. Hannah returned to the kitchen and was asked to help bring some cold food up from the kitchen to the dining room using the dumbwaiter. She was alone for a while downstairs and decided the dumbwaiter might be a good hiding spot for her letter as it kept slipping out of her skirt. She folded up the letter and forced it under the shelf where there was a space between the boards. She would get it later. Now she had to concentrate on the job of getting the food upstairs.”

Nattress has conducted research on her family history, and most of “Dreams in the Mist” is based on her research on her family’s involvement in the War of 1812. “Using characters and places from my own family history and the history of the area gives this fictional piece reality,” she says. “It is timely for the celebrations of the bicentennial of the War of 1812.”
